And yes, cats repay their debts. This shirt is inspired by Nekosada, the famous Rakugo story about a black cat who repays his savior, Sadakichi, by taking revenge on his behalf. While the original story is a bittersweet ghost tale, this design captures the heartwarming moments shared between the cat and his owner. Black cats are actually considered bringers of good fortune and luck! ^^ "If you’re grateful for being saved, you have to repay the favor. Bringing prosperity to the business means better food for the cat, too!" Teaching the cat the tricks of gambling, Sadakichi discovers the black cat can predict the dice rolls. A single "Nyago" means odd numbers (Han), while "Nyago-Nyago" means even numbers (Cho). Thanks to his feline companion, business boomed and prosperity followed. However, Sadakichi’s unfaithful wife and her lover plotted his murder, stealing away the happy life he shared with his cat. The black cat set out to avenge his fallen master, but met his tragic end during the wake. He was found dead, clutching pieces of human flesh in both paws... This shirt reflects that story: the front features the happy, purring black cat ("Nyago-Nyago"), while the back reveals the Assassin Black Cat! Actual product colors may not be completely reproduced in the images. 【あらすじ】 魚屋の定吉の本職はバクチ打ち。なじみの居酒屋で一杯やるのが日課。ある日いつも通り一杯やっていると、頭の上からごと音が聞こえてくる。悪さをした黒猫の足を縛って、二階にあげておいたという。翌日には殺してしまおうかという話しをきいた定吉は、その猫を引き取ることにした。 猫にバクチを教えていると、ツボの中のサイコロの目がわかることが判明。ニャゴと鳴くと奇数の「半」、ニャゴニャゴと鳴くと偶数の「丁」。これは、助けてもらった恩返しに違いない。定吉は懐の中に黒猫を入れて仕事に行くようになり、金回りがよくなっていった。 定吉が長旅に出ている間に女房が浮気。女房は浮気相手と定吉の殺害計画を立て、ある夜に相手の男が実行。殺された定吉から黒猫が飛び出し、襲った男の喉笛を噛みきった。一方、浮気相手の帰りを心配していた女房は、窓から飛び込んできた黒い物体に襲われ絶命する。 翌日、二人のお通夜が行われていると、棺の蓋が動き二人の死体が動きだした。通りがかった浪人がその状況をみて短刀を刺すと”ぎゃぁ”という声。よくみると黒猫が両手に人の喉の肉片を掴んで死んでいた。 これは、定吉殺しの仇討ちを黒猫がおこなったと評判になる。 畜生でありながらその恩を感じて仇討ちをしたのは天晴れであると町奉行から猫塚を立てて懇ろに葬ってやれと命じた。 [Synopsis] Sadakichi, a fishmonger, is secretly a gambler whose daily routine includes stopping by his favorite tavern. One day, he hears a thumping sound from above. The barkeeper tells him a misbehaving black cat has been tied up upstairs and will be killed the next day. Taking pity on the creature, Sadakichi decides to adopt him. While casually teaching the cat about gambling, Sadakichi realizes the cat can guess the dice hidden under the cup. A single "Nyago" indicates odd numbers (Han), and "Nyago-Nyago" indicates even numbers (Cho). Believing this to be the cat’s way of repaying his kindness, Sadakichi begins taking the black cat everywhere in his coat, and his financial fortunes soar. Later, while Sadakichi is away on a long trip, his wife commits infidelity and plots his murder with her lover. One night, the lover carries out the crime. As Sadakichi is killed, the black cat leaps out and bites through the killer's throat. Meanwhile, the wife, anxiously waiting for her lover's return, is attacked by a black shadow bursting through the window and loses her life. The next day, during the joint wake for the unfaithful wife and her lover, the coffin lids begin to shift, and the bodies start moving. A passing samurai notices the unnatural scene and strikes with his short sword, triggering a horrific scream. Upon closer inspection, they find the black cat dead, firmly holding pieces of human flesh in both paws. Word spreads that the black cat successfully avenged Sadakichi's murder. Impressed by the animal's loyalty and sense of gratitude, the magistrate orders a special cat monument ("Nekozuka") to be erected so the brave black cat can be laid to rest with honor.
